Janvier Onana

English

The article explores in tandem the epistemological suppositions that inform the problematics as they are usually formulated in terms of the historicity characteristic of African societies and the inherent methodological corollaries. The aim of this discussion, intended to be constructive, is to highlight some of the conceptual ambiguities and theoretical aporias that continue to insinuate themselves into the most common, including the best-established, theories, with the result that the distance often urged with respect to what are rightly held to be opposing schools of thought (especially developmentalism) seems in certain respects to be more a matter of lip-service than of actual practice.
